COLLECTION 1

Reviews:

"I have to say I was completely blown away by Cicatrix COLLECTION 1 -- there are some incredible songs. I couldn't rave quite as much as I wanted to in my review. Several of the songs are candidates for my favorites of this year -- breathtaking. There wasn't a single song on there I didn't like. Thanks for putting together such a great bunch of bands that deserve LOTS more exposure. I was left shaking my head in amazement as to how you found all these divergent and talented acts. Congratulations on this compilation, it may be the best one I've ever heard. Amazing." --personal email from writer / reviewer Thomas S Roche, CA

"The Cicatrix CD has to be the best compilation CD I have ever heard. I have to thank you for putting some great bands on there. I am definitely gonna get CDs by most of these bands." --Bob N

"I tried to figure out what the genre of music is that Cicatrix represents - no dice. But here's a try: These bands are sort of triphop, folkhop, trance, psychedelic, vaguepop, Gothpop - and about a thousand other things thrown in. I was amazed by the quality of this CD. I'm usually not a fan of compilations. But the songs on Cicatrix kept me enraptured. This could be the best compilation I have ever heard . . . striking and mournful, stunning . . . ominous, beautiful, charming . . . auditory hypnosis . . . haunting, eerie, psychedelic, lush. A great collection of interesting bands. I was stunned to hear no stinkers on this whole album - a very rare thing on compilations. And there are several tracks that are really phenomenal. Hats off to DivaNation, who compiled this strange and beautiful thing." --Thomas S. Roche @GOTHIC NET, CA

"Firm on its resolve to promote "mixed-gender" acts, DivaNation sampler of dark electronica and trip-hop includes dulcet female voices backed by some male musicians. Cicatrix COLLECTION 1 is an excellent and varied introudction to an obviously fertile scene of technology-loving groups. (4)" --Outsight Ezine, Detroit

"Cicatrix . . . it's great. It's stuck in my cd player and refuses to come out. ; )" --cailin

"The art work is beautiful!!! The whole package looks great! I love the opening piece . . . Oblivia . . . beautiful! I love all the songs! yeah! Many kisses come your way for all your efforts! s m i l e . . . you did good!" --Love, Sasha, St Louis

About Cicatrix (the ritual scarring) COLLECTION 1:

33 acts submitted 66 songs of which 16 were chosen for this CD. The result is called CICATRIX (the ritual scarring) COLLECTION 1, a full-length CD of adventurous contemporary music by mixed-gender acts. NOT indie-pop, NOT "alternative", --it's trip-hop /edgy /dark /electro /rock. Bands from Chicago, Milwaukee, St Louis, and Kalamazoo are represented here.

This collection, unlike most compilations, is carefully chosen and sequenced --it's made to be listened to over and over again. There's no jumping from a hard-rock tune to jazz to folk and then metal. Not that there's no surprises, and there certainly is contrast, but it's all very intentional, and the songs were chosen to fit together as a whole. CICATRIX (the ritual scarring) Collection 1 will be followed by more annual Collections.

There's something about the way musicians turn their psychic & physical scars into music, and how that music then makes it's mark on others . . . that process makes this title -CICATRIX (the ritual scarring)- wholly appropriate. May we suggest you use headphones?
